He achieved incredible artistic renown and critical acclaim during his lifetime and has continued to interest new audiences ever since. His prolific body of work has been reproduced in books, calendars, art prints, advertisements, and magazines for generations. His paintings and murals always utilized a unique juxtaposition of designed elements, luminescent colors, photorealistic subjects and romantic images which combined to captivate his viewers.
P22 is a company that creates computer typefaces inspired by Art, History, and Science. This company created the Parrish font set in cooperation with the National Museum of American Illustration. Maxfield Parrish’s words accompanied beautiful illustrations. Such images became superfluous because when those words were read, the reader became enthralled by the illustrations and drawn into the illustrator’s magnetic fantasies. Books illustrated by Parrish no longer belonged to their authors, but rather became ‘Parrish’ books, just as a generic color became known as ‘Parrish Blue.’ and a font became known as Parrish Font. As a result of his ability to create such sublime splendor, Maxfield Parrish became unquestionably the most successful and best-known American illustrator of the early part of the twentieth century.
